How ‘simple’ is your world?

Complexity is the scourge of life

We know that the pursuit of success demands focus, but in order to do that we need to make a choice. For high achievers, life is usually pretty ‘full on’ with all sorts of day-to-day demands. As if that isn’t enough, in our search for our version of ‘nirvana’, we often make things more complex by giving ourselves too many choices.

Start with what you love to do.

Mark Twain once said “The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation” and while we know that is not easy to achieve it is nonetheless a great thing to aim for. At Thought leaders Global we are always talking about this in the context of “Doing the work you love, the way you want, with people you like”. Simplifying our lives is the key to make the choices that allow us to do this.

Clutter not only kills productivity…

Clutter also kills choice. I’m really talking about the clutter of our minds here. Just as a shed or spare room full of ‘stuff’ feels debilitating, so too does too many things going on in your head. The brilliant behavioural psychology expert James Clear, adds to this theory by saying that one way we can simplify is to make the right choices and do more of what comes easily. Once we know what that is, and it’s often what we’ve been most successful at, we need to repeat it time and time again. By doing so, we make sure we know the essential fundamentals for success and that is critical if we are to rise above the pack we play in.

Simplicity is the tonic for action

If you lessen your choices and you’re now sure about what it is you truly want to focus on, it’s time to knuckle down and be great at it. That only comes from practice, practice and practice. You have to create a body of work.

Maybe it’s time to ask, “what can I lose, in order to gain more?”
