How do we define a useful contribution, a road worth travelling?
It came as a real shock to me that I have now been in my own business for over 15 years. It's a practice really, with low overheads and resources sourced as and when I need them, and I wouldn't want it any other way. It's an accomplishment I am extremely proud of, and it follows 15 years in my last role as a Director of Clemenger BBDO Adelaide.
I have been lucky along the journey to have a supportive family in Susie, Tom and Issie, and some fantastic people working with me. There are too many to credit here, but two I have to mention: Jess McLaughlin and her team at Felt Brand Stories have been an amazing support for eight of those years, and my EA Lynnette Davis at E-Distant Assistant helps me so much. We live in different cities but you'd never know it.
Along the way I have learnt that the people I serve are all that matters.
I truly do the work I love, the way I want, with people I like, and how lucky am I that I can help make a difference to the way they work and the success they enjoy.
But there's still so much to do.
I'm hoping to be useful for another 15-plus years and the roles I am in now are perfect for that. FOCUS is my main game and always has been, and with global uncertainty on so many fronts it has never been more important to stay on our game.
The acronym F.O.C.U.S helps us get there. Follow One Course Until Successful is the best thing I know to keep us on the tasks we set ourselves.
So I am levelling up once more with new books, new workshops, an event and a new website to deliver my thinking. It's the biggest body of work I have ever undertaken, but it must be done.
I hope my focus is going to help yours in ways we have never imagined.
My job is to help everyone I work with: my Game Focus coaching clients, Vistage members, the GPs and general practice staff, the aged care groups, and the teams behind the boards I serve on. I'll help you tackle the challenges, work through the opportunities and stay on track so you can succeed like never before.
I'll dedicate myself to that. You'll lose focus if I don't.
Cheers, Rod.
