You're no orphan, so don't despair.
At this time of the year we often find ourselves absolutely spent, dragging ourselves to the finish line that is Christmas. Some work right up to Christmas Day, others take off a week or two earlier, but we're all looking forward to closing the shop for a few days at least.
I'll be taking three weeks off this year, ahead of a big 2025. I plan to spend time with my family, watch cricket, eat leftovers, show my skill on the barbie and rest for the first week or two. Then I'll pause and reflect, and turn my mind to a couple of projects that will keep me motivated for the whole year ahead.
Every year is a growth year.
I've just celebrated ten years as a TEC / Vistage chair, and this is when we set our sights on the year ahead. Two weeks ago we had one of Vistage's most popular speakers, Ashton Bishop, on Next Horizon Thinking: a powerful and timely subject as we assess the year just gone and set our sights on bigger or better things.
And we're not alone there either.
I have the privilege of working with some very smart people, and most are in exactly this place right now. End of year is a fantastic time to help people who want to raise the bar. Just yesterday four outstanding people talked to me about their hopes for the year ahead. All have unique talents, but they can't do it alone, so they reached out.
Who, not how, is partly the key to the growth we seek.
Last week I was in Tasmania working with a company seeking to grow and improve in many ways. As I often do I read a new book on the way down and back: Who Not How, by Dan Sullivan and Dr Benjamin Hardy. It's a game changer. You can't do it all on your own, and it's a poor use of your time to try.
If you can't do it, shop it out. If you need advice or mentoring, seek it.
I promise you'll get more done, and your rewards will be greater.
My job is never clearer than when I am working with people who want to grow, especially when they're buggered after a big year. If levelling up is something you want to do in 2025, call me on +61 438 665 280 and let's chat. We'll only need an hour.
I wish you the compliments of the season in the meantime.
Cheers, Rod.
