If you're anything like me you'll think ten years sounds like a lot before you start the journey, and your expectations are usually pretty ambitious. However, the time disappears so quickly that it's easy to wish you'd seen more growth in that time.
Not all journeys are the same.
I've just celebrated ten years as a TEC / Vistage Australia and New Zealand chair and it has truly been one of the most rewarding periods of my career. I have had the privilege of working with some of Australia's best business leaders, and as part of this community I've made friends for life with people I care about and respect enormously. My focus is usually to help them achieve leadership and business success, but I will often get to support them at a deeply personal level.
Such connection is both humbling and gratifying.
When someone brings you into their world and trusts you above pretty much everyone else, that is extremely humbling, and rewarding. You have to earn that trust, and when I look back on my time as a chair that is the thing that fills me with pride. We all need confidants in our lives, but we choose them carefully, and to be awarded this privilege is an honour I don't take lightly.
Times are challenging in this VUCA world. Conflict in the Middle East and Europe, political and social unrest, high cost of living, higher mortgage rates, Covid lingering: it's creating an uncertainty many have not known in their lifetime. As the chair of Vistage CE30, I help business owners and leaders navigate these stormy seas.
I've said it before, but this is what you can expect if you join CE30. I want to see every one of our members succeed, and they do, sometimes way past their wildest dreams. It is the work I love, and I get to do it with the kind of people I love: those with dedication, a great idea, the will to win and the tenacity to stay focused until they succeed.
